Amber Stone’s debut album, Stone Face, was a classic in 2016.
In an interview with the New York Times, Stone told host Andy Cohen about how she was inspired to write her new record.
“I was writing songs when I was 20,” she said.
“It’s the best.
It’s my baby.
I was writing these songs in the middle of the night in a studio with this girl that I had known for years.
I said, ‘Listen, I need you to sing me a song.
I’m ready.’
And she sang it to me.”
“Stone Face” was released in April 2017.
In the interview, Stone also discussed her music with Cohen and said she’s excited to work with him again.
“He’s an incredibly talented producer,” she told Cohen.
“We had such a great time collaborating on this record, and I’m really excited about doing it with him.”
Stone’s record was released on the heels of the release of her new album, I Know This Shit, which Stone said was inspired by her experiences growing up in the inner city of Chicago.
“Growing up in Chicago, I grew up with a lot of violence and I got the message that violence is okay,” she explained to the Times.
“And I think that we’re all still living with the legacy of that.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a white person, a black person, an immigrant person, or any other race.
It matters that you are living in the city and the violence that happens.
And it matters that there is a violence that exists in our world.”
