Posted April 16, 2018 12:51:55 The gold medal won by Great Britain at the London Olympics in August is one of the first medals ever awarded to an Australian woman.
The medal, a bronze, was handed to Australian Jessica Ennis-Hill during a ceremony at the Australian Pavilion in the Olympic Stadium on Thursday.
The event was also a chance for the Olympic champion to showcase her skills in front of a packed arena.
Ms Ennis, who won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 2016, said she was very happy with the honour.
“I’ve been working so hard for this medal, and I think it’s a fantastic result,” she said.
“It means so much to the women’s program and to the country.”
They deserve it, and they deserve it so much that they deserve to have it.
“The Australian Women’s Olympic team is preparing to return to the Games next month, with the Sydney Games being held on August 1 and 2.
The women’s team is expected to compete in their first Olympics since the 2009 Beijing Games.
